The Student Services Coordinator provides services to students seeking support across a variety of areas of student support and student life.Writing Center (40%): The coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center. The coordinator will create, develop, and implement all writing support resources and services to support the mission of developing the scholarly and professional writing of all IHP community members. On occasion, the coordinator may work with faculty/staff to support writing projects (publication submissions, grant applications, etc.)
Accessibility Resources (40%): Provides services for students with disabilities and consultations for students seeking support. Individual student needs are assessed and reasonable academic accommodations, learning and well-being strategies, and environmental adaptations are implemented and monitored. Close collaboration occurs with faculty, academic program leaders, other support staff and offices, and administration to support student accommodation needs. The coordinator will follow industry and campus best practices in the assessment, training, and counseling of students as well as the implementation of reasonable accommodations that are aligned with published essential functions and technical standards for the respective programs of study.
Student Leadership Development (20%): Assists in planning, marketing, and executing innovative programs, workshops, and events that support student leadership and the development of registered student organizations. Research student development theories and utilizes research findings and best practices to inform the design and implementation of student development programs and interventions. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and interventions based on student development theory principles, and continuously refine approaches to enhance impact and student outcomes. Guides and instructs student leaders and organizations throughout all phases of event planning and approval. Maintains regular contact with student leaders and responds to student organization needs.
Duties/ ResponsibilitiesWriting Center (40%)
- Provide overall leadership for the vision and structure of the Writing Center, drawing from best practices in the field;
- Develop, oversee, and provide both in-person and online writing support for all IHP community members;
- Create, maintain, and update resources to support the development of academic and professional writing skills; offer workshops around key writing topics. Develop new programming opportunities to support writing skill development;
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the Writing Center by developing ongoing assessment and data collection processes;
- Work with departments to identify the specific writing needs for their students and collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to develop and implement initiatives to address these challenges
- Collaborate with Academic Support, the Library, and others across the campus to deliver writing support resources as needed
Accessibility Resources (40%)
- Gathers and evaluates documentation to confirm eligibility for reasonable accommodations, in consultation with the student, faculty and staff, and outside constituents.
- Determines eligibility for reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and assists in facilitating the delivery of support services.
- Provides referrals for academic advising, supplemental instruction, writing services, and other student support resources.
- Assists in the development, and implementation processes and procedures (e.g., proctoring, documentation review, assistive technology, accommodations determinations, etc.), in accordance with Section 504 and AADA as well as the Institute’s mission and core values, to address the needs of students with disabilities and to ensure consistent services across campuses.
- Provide consultation and guidance to faculty, staff, and other administrators on accommodating and supporting students with disabilities.
Clubs and SGA Advising (20%)
- Advise student organizations, in concert with the Assistant Dean.
- Provide support for SGA elections, and monitoring of budgets, activities, and social media for IHP clubs and organizations
- Assist with planning of developmental workshops for student leaders (including support for faculty advisors and Student Government Association leaders)
- assist in planning, implementation and assessment of student engagement programming, including but not limited to community-building socials and recognition events, designed to enhance the IHP student experience while supporting the OSAS mission and core values of the Institute
- Update and maintain the resources for student organizations, (including student leadership handbook, club request forms, SGA by-laws). Assist in development of templates for student organizations’ recordkeeping (mission statements, goals, bylaws, contact information, executive board role descriptions, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- This position does not supervise any staff but does hire and oversee student workers (e.g., graduate assistants, peer writing tutors, peer note-takers, etc.) in OSAS.
FISCAL/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY
- The coordinator will be responsible for monitoring student organization budgets, including expenditures and reimbursem*nts, investigating variances, and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner. Ensuring compliance with established budget and operational policies and procedures among student organizations, and reviewing and reconciling monthly expense reports
Education And Experience Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred
- Experience providing support for student writing, particularly in health sciences education
- Experience in higher education or similar setting with responsibilities for providing direct support to students with disabilities
Skills, Abilities, And Competencies Required
- While training and ongoing support for professional development will be provided, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, included detail-oriented editing
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
- Ability and desire to work independently and to take initiative
- Strong interpersonal skills, understanding of diverse student needs and the ability to interact with diverse individuals comfortably
- Demonstrated interest in promoting justice, equity, and inclusion through collaborative, student-facing initiatives
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions effectively; customer-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with office computer skills required, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; competency in database systems preferred; knowledge of social media platforms for professional use (student communications and promotional activities) preferred
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn assessment as applied to educational settings, assistive technology, and legal considerations affecting students with disabilities (particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act and its amendments)
- Proven ability to work productively and collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff
WORKING CONDITIONSWork includes several yearly peak periods of activity with significant deadlines. A typical day will include multiple meetings, in a high traffic, fast-paced office with frequent interruptions. Team-oriented approach and student-centeredness in and enthusiasm for student engagement and professional development through active and passive programming, event planning needed.
The role requires regular on-site presence to support student access to services, with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule. The work may require occasional off-hours (e.g., outside business hours), evening, and/or weekend work (in person and/or remotely). Schedule can be adjusted accordingly with advance approval of supervisor, depending on institutional needs.
