We Asked Our Editors Which Pieces of Jewelry They Never Take Off (2024)

You know those pieces of jewelry you never take off? Bits of silver or gold that add the finishing touch to every outfit. Pieces that so rarely leave your body it’s as if they’ve become a part of it. Here at Vogue, we call it “everyday jewelry” and our editors can vouch for their significance. Whether it’s a sentimental necklace to remind us of our loved ones or a pair of comfort hoops we can’t leave the house without, these tried-and-true jewels are the backbone of our wardrobes.

Some of these baubles are so delightful, my colleagues are rarely caught without them. That’s totally understandable, given the versatility of classic jewelry—these pieces pair well with nearly anything, from jeans and a white T-shirt to a fun party dress. Below, find the everyday jewelry essentials Vogue editors love.

Two things to know about me: I wear a lot of rings and I have a lot of ear piercings. So on any given day, I’ll be wearing a minimum of that. In addition to a few rings my Grandmother gave me, my usuals are Miansai’s monogrammed signet ring (my brother and I have matching) and Agmes silver stacking rings. I also leave in little huggie hoops at all times.

I can’t stop wearing baroque pearls. A baroque pearl necklace, single wobbly-shaped pearl drops, and these double pearl earrings from Sophie Bille Brahe. They feel classic (I'm not one to dabble in trends) but also, quite fresh and modern.

Of all my cherished jewelry bits, one I literally can’t take off is my dainty Catbird bracelet that I got zapped on at its Soho welding annex. The simple, twisted chain is incredibly lightweight, meaning I often forget I’m wearing it and can easily pair it with other pieces. On necklaces, I find myself reaching for two gold chain necklaces daily. Perhaps a nod to my sorority, I developed quite a penchant for pearl adornments like Rellery’s chain link choker that always adds a chic touch to any outfit. Otherwise, Missoma’s chain is my timeless go-to. Lastly, how adorable is Amyo’s tiny ring etched with my initial?

I love minimalist gold jewelry, and particularly chunky gold earrings. I've been wearing these Missoma hoops for years, and more recently added these Jenny Bird ones to my repertoire. They go with everything!

Marlo Laz makes beautiful, modern heirloom pieces that are the perfect gift to mark a significantoccasion. These initial pendants are simple enough for everyday wear, but the delicate detail is exquisite. This is the sort of jewelry I put on and never take off.

I wear a watch and two rings—one on each hand—every day without fail. I feel naked without them! They all have meaning and feel a bit like personal armor, especially my mixed metal Spinelli Kilcollin ring, which I like to fidget when I’m thinking or writing. The little links are perfect for channeling my energy into!

In my opinion, the daintier the jewelry the better. Earrings-wise, I love this delicate gold pair from By Pariah and these Jenny Bird baubles. Meanwhile, Fallon’s crystal-embellished necklace adds a subtle amount of sparkle, whether you’re wearing it with your everyday wardrobe or a festive party dress ahead of the holidays. Thanks to Saint Laurent, ’80s-inspired bangles are back—and in a big way! I love this chunky gold duo from Ben-Amun.

I have some Agmes earrings, similar to this Patrice style, close by on my desk to throw on for any Zoom to spice up any item. They’re deceptively lightweight and make any outfit that much more interesting.

I consider “everyday jewels” as the jewelry I never take off. I have been known to layer it on but, after a summer of simplifying, my approach has become more refined of late. I have a basic approach to my multiple ear piercings: more than one can skew towards a fight for visual attention—keep them simple (i.e. thin huggie hoops or unfussy studs). For rings, the only thing I wear absolutely every day without fail is my wedding band, a thread-thin pavé diamond ring. Anything else is usually a visual statement or deeply personal.

Two jewelry obsessions as of late: Chubby hoops from Jenny Bird and stacked rings from Completed Works. I am sucker for a good hoop and Jenny Bird currently makes my favorite! It’s also not heavy so won’t weigh your ears down. Also, I have not stopped wearing these stacked rings from Completedworks! I love a minimal ring stack that makes a subtle statement without overwhelming the hand.

Growing up, I was such an earrings girl—I got a new piercing at least once a year, and I’d always mix and match pieces to go with my outfits. As of recent, though, I’ve come to realize that a good pair of statement gold earrings have been my go-to; these gold-tone hoop earrings from Fossil have dressed up my casual outfits, yet look great when I wear them to work paired with a necklace.

And I can’t forget all my favorite rings! When I was in Ireland in 2019, I got my Claddagh ring in Claddagh and haven’t taken it off since. It symbolizes love and friendship, and is still an effortlessly chic piece that I’ll wear forever.
