Ingredients needed for making this easy sausage buns or hot dog buns

  1. Flour :325 g (2 1/2 cups)
  2. Slightly warm milk (not hot) :190 ml (3/4 cup + 2 tsp)
  3. Butter :50g (3 1/2 tbsp)
  4. Yeast (instant):1 tsp( If Active dried yeast, use 1 and 1/4 tsp)
  5. Sugar :2 1/2 tbsp (30g)
  6. Salt:1 1/4 tsp(7g)

How to make sausage buns or sausage rolls

We can make this sausage buns in five simple steps

1.Prepare the dough

2.First Proofing

3.Divide and shape the dough

4.Second proofing

5.Bake the sausage buns

1.Prepare the dough

Into a bowl,add all our ingredients together and mix them to form a shaggy mass of dough.

Add the milk,sugar,yeast,salt ,butter and flour and mix them together.

Transfer the dough onto a clean work surface and knead the dough until the dough become soft and elastic.

Only a well kneaded dough can produce soft and fluffy sausage buns or sausage rolls .

This bread dough is a very easy to knead dough.It will not be very sticky and can be easily kneaded to form a soft and elastic bread dough.

It will be so much easier if you are using astand mixerto prepare the dough.

In a stand mixer, just knead the dough for around 8minutes using the dough hook attachment.

2.Proof the dough

Once we prepare our dough,cover it and let it sit and rise for 30 minutes.

In the meantime, heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Add the hot dogs, and allow them to crisp slightly and get some color on them.

Set aside on a plate to cool.

3.Divide and shape the sausage buns or sausage rolls

After 30 minutes our dough will rise slightly.

Now divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.For more precision,I weighed each of them and they were around 74 g in weight.

Tuck in the edges towards the centre and roll the balls into small round balls.

Roll out each dough ball to a thin sheet.

Roll and form a long cylinder shape(like in the video).

Pinch and seal the edges.

Roll this into a 10-12 inch rope, keeping the middle thicker than the ends.

Roll the dough rope around a hot dog, tucking in the ends.

Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

As they will rise and puff up, we need to keep some space between the sausage rolls.

Repeat the same with all the dough balls.

4.Final Rising

Cover the baking sheet with a cling film and allow the buns to rise in a warm place for another 45 minutes.

If your place is not warm wait for 1 hour until the rolls are really puffy.

Before taking them into the oven,brush with egg wash.This will give a nice shine and golden brown color to our sausage buns tor hot dog buns.

Sprinkle the top with some sesame seeds which adds a nice flavor to our sausage buns and also makes them look more pretty.

5.Bake the sausage buns or sausage rolls

Bake the sausage buns or hot dog buns in a 375 F or 190 C preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top.

I placed mine in the lower rack of my oven; this will prevent any chance of over browning from the top coils

Remove the sausage rolls from the oven and immediately brush the buns with butter. This will make the buns even more softer.

Can I freeze these Sausage Buns or Sausage bread Rolls

This sausage bread rolls freezes well.

Let the rolls to come to room temperature. Put them in a Ziploc or tightly sealed plastic bag and store them in the freezer.

Thaw them before reheating.
